Color Time! Day 1
Here’s the first step of color from last weeks underpainting. 3 more classes til the end of class and I’m going to focus on making this as finished as I can and learn as much as I can in the short amount of time we have left.

Decided to do one more underpainting since the likeness of the model just wasn't there yet. Glad I did as this is way closer to what the model actually looks like. Pretty happy. Starting color this week and will have the remaining 4 weeks of class dedicated to finishing the color.

Here's my 4th wash from class. Didn't take a photo of #3. Going to start color next week. Getting better at proportions but I still tend to elongate the face a bit too much. Ah well I'm starting color on this one. Not 100% caring if it's not completely accurate since there's only 5 more classes and I need to get some color time in!

I’ll be taking my first real class starting 1/29/10 at SVA in Manhattan with Marvin Mattelson. I started oil painting about 4 years ago on and off. I took a very beginner class when I first started but pretty much have been teaching myself from trial and error, books, web etc. This will be my first real technique course and I’m really excited. I’m not too into traditional portraits but I feel I need to know the fundamentals before I can go off, even if I want to paint abstractly. I’m sure what Marvin has to teach will be impactful on my work. Stoked.
